99 ladies take 1st place in the Stars and Stripes 2012 Tournament

Playing in a year older age group field, the  99 ladies took 1st place in the Stars and Stripes 2012 Tournament.  The team battled four 98 year group teams and ended up the champs over the Mar 24th weekend.

The first game under the Friday night lights pitted the Darlings against a very physical Cisco 98 Black Team.  The team from the west side scored 2 goals in the first half, and the teal battled back in the second half coming up short at the final bell with a 1-2 loss.  Although they lost, the coaches and parents thought they played well and their optimism was not dampened.

Saturday night, the team battled a team from Prescott, the Vardar-Crossfit girls.  The Arsenal ladies probably played their best passing game ever and won soundly with a 4-1 win.

Sunday morning, the match featured the teal ladies versus the Ft. Lowell Express girls from Tucson.  The Tucson team had won their previous two games, so it was a must win for our ladies to advance.  It was a battle from the gecko, but the girls managed to just get the ball in the oppenents net only once and it was good enough to seal a 1-0 victory.

Riding on the momentum of 2 wins, the Darlings met the Sereno South 98 Girls White to decide who's the champions on Sunday afternoon.  A goal knocked in after pinballing in the goal mouth in the first half put the teal up 1-0 at the break.  Sereno tied the game early in the second half, but a breakaway in the last quarter resulted in another Arsenal goal.  The defense tightened up and at the final whistle, 1st place belonged to the Gilbert Arsenal 99 girls after the 2-1 win.  Congradulations Ladies.
